An Address Presented by Madame Anna Ashu, Head Teacher of FUGOPANS Kumba on the occasion of the school’s Pre-Christmas Celebrations on Tuesday, December 15, 2015.

I welcome you to this occasion in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Christmas is here once again. The Spirit of Christmas has been loosed upon the world and because of this there is a persuasive feeling of joy in the air. What a joyous time, what a wonderful feeling! But beyond this pomp and pageantry is the need to pause now and again and go beyond so as to examine the reason for the season. In other words, we need time for sober reflection to permit us ask the question, why Christmas? Why all the celebrations and merry-making?

FUGOPANS ALBUM
Among the many things that popular opinion holds about Christmas, I find two most arresting. The first is that Christmas comes but once in a year and the second is that Christmas is for children. Concerning these opinions, I hold as strong a partiality for the former as I take exception to the latter. Christmas is for everyone.
Yes, as Ebenezer Scrooge, that inimitable creation of Charles Dickens in a Christmas carol would tell you, Christmas is for all; children and adults as well.

FUGOPANS Grad HM
If Christmas is a celebration of love, of God’s greatest gift to mankind and of peace and goodwill among men, then it is for all. If it is a time for celebrating and upholding these quintessential values that the world is so much in need of in these dark times, then it is for all. For the times we live through are dire and dark indeed. I speak in terms of the discordant narratives of hatred, of war and intolerance, of extremism and senseless slaughter which is now in ascendancy in our world. Distinguished guests, brothers and sisters, dear children, it is only the spirit of Christmas, only the narrative of Christmas that can heal our sick world. It is only this that must counter these dark narratives.
Christmas is for all. Yes, for everyone who loves God, for everyone who loves his fellow men and wishes them well and for everyone who believes in world peace and unity. It is my desire that the spirit of Christmas should challenge us all personally. Because of it, you and I should ask ourselves: What have I done or am doing to promote joy, peace and love in my corner of the world?
At this juncture, I will say let the celebrations begin. Permit me however to first of all thank our children on whose behalf we are here. It has been an eventful term and I commend the teachers for the hard work they all put in during the term. I also commend the pupils for their general attentiveness notwithstanding the occasional lapses here and there.
My advice to you as you proceed on holidays after this is that while you celebrate Christmas; do not forget to also devote some time to your academic work. To you parents remember to prepare to send your children back to school with their fees come January 4, 2016.
As our children make merry on Christmas Day, let us make this advice from Philippians 4:5 our keynote: “Let your moderation be known to all men.”We should all feast in moderation, celebrate in moderation and avoid all sorts of riotous parties. On that day avoid going to strange places with people you do not know and refrain from accepting food and drinks from strangers. Also take care of vehicles as you walk along the streets or cross the roads. Parents should endeavour to help their children to be safety conscious and observe these basic security instructions.
As the holidays begin, I leave us all with these scriptures to meditate on day and night and obey them so that all would be well with us. “Whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are of good report, if there be any virtue and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Philippians 4:8.
Thank you all for your time. I wish you a merry Christmas and a happy New Year in advance.
God bless us and keep us all in Jesus’ name.

3 billion FCFA worth complex for Saint Louis University Institute in the offing.

The construction of a  new complex worth some 3 billion FCFA to host the Saint Louis University Institute of Health Sciences in Bamenda was one of the main revelations made by the CEO Dr. Nick Ngwanyam during the 2015 Graduation and Matriculation of the institution. This ambitious project is to be realised on a 50.000 square meters of land provided by the Government and the Traditional Council of Bamendankwe at Up Station in Bamenda.

Dr. Nick with Rep MINSANTE

Dr. Nick Ngwanyam and representative of the Minister of Higher Education

More important however during this ceremony was the fact that it served once more to showcase Dr. Nick Ngwanyam, an enormous contributor to the growth of the Cameroonian Society in his initiatives as an educationist in the health sector as a very consistent person in his endeavors.

The magnitude and importance of the occasion was manifested not only by the caliber of people who thronged the campus but by the fact that for at least five hours, traffic between the Saint Louis Junction and Bambui was brought to a standstill. Countless number of varied cars conveyed thousands of students, parents and other concerned parties.

Saint Louis Graduation 1 For a reasonable length of time, such a huge gathering of personalities have not been observed in Bamenda as was the case during this 12th Batch of Graduating students and Matriculation of some 455 freshmen.
Present at the occasion were the Governor of the Northwest Region Adolf Lele L’Afrique, the Minister of Higher Education who was represented, officials from the University of Buea and some other key personalities from across the country.

Saint Louis Graduation 2
Beginning with Thanksgiving, Dr. Nick Ngwanyam being a faithful Catholic dedicated the twin event to the Almighty Father. It is therefore logical that it was Rev. Father Joseph Mbidzenyuy, the same priest who some 20 years earlier dedicated the Saint Louis vision who officiated at the Thanks Giving Mass whose central theme in his Sermon centered on having faith in God and trusting in providence. Recounting the humble beginnings of Saint Louis which he said started in 1994 as a clinic he went ahead to explain how it transformed into a Higher Health Institute in 2004. He explained that such results came about only when there is faith.

Saint Louis Graduation
Calling on the students to have faith in God, he reminded them that Jesus Christ began his ministry by healing the sick. As such he emphasized that the countenance or personality of health workers should be like that of God. Having faith in everything that is done and doing everything for the good of the patient. Dissuading them from falling in love with money he advised them not to use their know-how for evil intentions.
The second segment of the day was dedicated essentially to entertainment which was provided by the Saint Louis Choir, the Wimbum Students Union’s Mbaya Dance, the Saint Louis Majorettes, the Manyu students and a special song from the graduating students titled “We are grateful.”
Dr. Nick Ngwanyam in his speech thanked the Minister of Higher Education, Professor Jaques Fame Ndongo for the help he has been extending to the institution in the form of accreditations, monitoring, certifications and quality control. He did not fail to recognise the contributions made by the Minister of Public Health by sending students to be trained at the institution. Dr. Ngwanyam equally revealed that apart from the University of Buea which has played the role of mentorship all this while, two weeks before the graduation officials from the University of Douala for an evaluation visit to grant mentorship for a Bachelor Degree and a Masters Programme in Pharmaceutical Sciences.
On the number of students on role, the CEO said 1400 students were enrolled for the 2015/2016 Academic Year with more than half of this number being francophones. On the quality of nurses graduating from Saint Louis he said they could hold their heads high anywhere. His institution could send qualified nurses anywhere into the world like the Philippines that sends about 9000 qualified nurses annually to the United States of America, Germany, Canada and Britain. Saint Louis given their quality could do the same he said.
One of the big revelations of the day was the plan to exploit 50.000 square meters of land at Up Station provided by Government and the Traditional Council in Bamendankwe to erect a complex to host Saint University Institute worth 3 billion FCFA. In a bid to provide ever improving quality, Dr. Nick Ngwanyam said they were in contact with the University of Cape Town in South Africa to make them mentor some Master Programmes.
The Governor of the North West Region, Adolf Lele L’Afrique was represented at the occasion by the Secretary General at the Governors Office Absolon Monono Wulua. On behalf of the Governor, the Secretary General said is an important aspect of that move towards emergence in 2035 and congratulated Saint Louis University Institute for being a partner of the Government in the achievement of this dream. The Minister of Higher Education through his representative called on the graduating students to maintain professionalism and serve as good ambassadors for the institution they were graduating from.

While the graduating batches were christened « Batch of Professionalism and Excellence », three exceptional students were singled out namely: Ngam Lesley Musa, Nchanji Kenneth and Longtchi.

Mother Agnes Memorial BNPS Kumba: Class six pupil reacts on present state of civic awareness in Cameroon

Ngu Ruth-Vic Ebandek-Class Six

“Cameroon is a peaceful and loving nation with natural resources. Cameroon has been referred to as land of promise and land of Glory. I am proud of my country.

Mother Agnes Ebandek 01

Nguh Ruth-Vic Ebandek – Class Six pupil

We should respect our country, the National Flag with its beautiful colours, the code of arms which is the best in the world, the National Anthem and the National Seal.

Mother Agnes Ebandek 00

We should respect the institutions of the State such schools, Government Offices, Hospitals, Sport Centers among others. I call on the youths of Cameroon to work together so that they become part of the emerging Cameroon in 2035. To do this we should study hard and stay away from armed conflicts, sexual desires and drugs to avoid HIV/AIDS.

We should equally love to respect our teachers, parents and appreciate the gifts that our country has provided us so as to be a good example in the community that we live in.”

A Speech presented by the Head Teacher of Full Gospel Primary and Nursery School-FUGOPANS, Madame Anna Ashu on the Annual General Meeting of the Parents Teachers Association holding on November 19, 2015.

The Chairman of the PTA,
Members of the Executive Committee,
Pastors,
Parents,
Teachers,
Ladies and Gentlemen.
On behalf of the management and staff members of FUGOPANS Kumba, it is my privilege and honour to welcome our highly distinguished parents to this Annual General Meeting. Indeed you are all highly appreciated to be present at this meeting.FUGOPANS ALBUM

This is a testimony to the concern and commitment you all share for the welfare and education of our children. Therefore it is my earnest prayer that whatever deliberations we will embark on today under God’s guidance, will be constructive and fruitful and will go a long way towards improving upon the already very high standards that we have set for ourselves.
Once more, permit me to appreciate and salute parents for the high level of co-operation demonstrated in many areas in the running of the school.

FUGOPANS PTA AGM 00

2015, Annual PTA AGM at FUGOPANS

I think specifically in terms of the assistance rendered in the area of development of infrastructural projects, the prompt settlement of school fees, the zeal, dedication and sacrifice of the members of the PTA executive in the discharge of its duties. I say a big thank you and may God reward you all richly in Jesus’ Name.
At this juncture, a review of some of the achievements and accomplishments of the school in the last academic year may be necessary.
Firstly, in the area of academics, the school recorded the best results at the Government Common Entrance Examination in the entire Meme Division. Not only did the school score a hundred percent but the best two candidates from Meme emerged from this school. What a distinction!
Secondly, to promote the welfare of our children living far away from the school, a bigger and more road-worthy bus has been acquired. And finally, the school after observing certain challenges confronting the learning and teaching of the French Language decided to engage the services of an experienced French pedagogue to facilitate the teaching and learning of that language.
Dear parents and teachers, it is our goal to never rest on our loins but to always strive forward to the attainment of excellence. In this task we need all hands to be on deck as well as the unflinching support and the usual cooperation of parents. You have really been wonderful.
However, in the current year, we are still soliciting your cooperation both in the areas of discipline and academics. For this reason, I am putting forward the following proposals:
– Hair style for girls
We are still proposing that all girls turn up with their hair done in the bakala style provided it is done without “attachments.”
– School Bus
Parents should encourage their children and wards to be on time and wait for the bus particularly the small one driven by Mr. Martin so that pupils are punctual in school. Pupils should wait for the bus and not the other way round.
– Uniforms and Sportswear
The current uniform, especially that of girls is to be maintained and the current sportswear should be acquired with the school logo printed on it.
– Books
Parents are to endeavour to get all compulsory books for their children.
– Playground
Our playground equipments are outdated and need replacement. We are aware that this is not the direct responsibility of parents but we are appealing for assistance in procuring these equipments which will go a long way to meeting up with the relaxation and recreational needs of our children.
– Fees Drive
We urge for the settlement of fees on time so as to maintain the school in a strong financial footing to implement all her policies.
– Security
Parents should sensitise their children to be security conscious at all times and refrain from going to places where they may be in danger. Parents are also directed to observe all the security regulations of the school and desist from any direct intrusion into the classrooms. Any such intrusion or entry must be with the express permission of from the office.
Once again I thank you for your attentiveness and urge you all to be free to offer any constructive criticism you may have for us.
Thank you.
