The construction of a new complex worth some 3 billion FCFA to host the Saint Louis University Institute of Health Sciences in Bamenda was one of the main revelations made by the CEO Dr. Nick Ngwanyam during the 2015 Graduation and Matriculation of the institution. This ambitious project is to be realised on a 50.000 square meters of land provided by the Government and the Traditional Council of Bamendankwe at Up Station in Bamenda.

More important however during this ceremony was the fact that it served once more to showcase Dr. Nick Ngwanyam, an enormous contributor to the growth of the Cameroonian Society in his initiatives as an educationist in the health sector as a very consistent person in his endeavors.
The magnitude and importance of the occasion was manifested not only by the caliber of people who thronged the campus but by the fact that for at least five hours, traffic between the Saint Louis Junction and Bambui was brought to a standstill. Countless number of varied cars conveyed thousands of students, parents and other concerned parties.
For a reasonable length of time, such a huge gathering of personalities have not been observed in Bamenda as was the case during this 12th Batch of Graduating students and Matriculation of some 455 freshmen.
Present at the occasion were the Governor of the Northwest Region Adolf Lele L’Afrique, the Minister of Higher Education who was represented, officials from the University of Buea and some other key personalities from across the country.

Beginning with Thanksgiving, Dr. Nick Ngwanyam being a faithful Catholic dedicated the twin event to the Almighty Father. It is therefore logical that it was Rev. Father Joseph Mbidzenyuy, the same priest who some 20 years earlier dedicated the Saint Louis vision who officiated at the Thanks Giving Mass whose central theme in his Sermon centered on having faith in God and trusting in providence. Recounting the humble beginnings of Saint Louis which he said started in 1994 as a clinic he went ahead to explain how it transformed into a Higher Health Institute in 2004. He explained that such results came about only when there is faith.

Calling on the students to have faith in God, he reminded them that Jesus Christ began his ministry by healing the sick. As such he emphasized that the countenance or personality of health workers should be like that of God. Having faith in everything that is done and doing everything for the good of the patient. Dissuading them from falling in love with money he advised them not to use their know-how for evil intentions.
The second segment of the day was dedicated essentially to entertainment which was provided by the Saint Louis Choir, the Wimbum Students Union’s Mbaya Dance, the Saint Louis Majorettes, the Manyu students and a special song from the graduating students titled “We are grateful.”
Dr. Nick Ngwanyam in his speech thanked the Minister of Higher Education, Professor Jaques Fame Ndongo for the help he has been extending to the institution in the form of accreditations, monitoring, certifications and quality control. He did not fail to recognise the contributions made by the Minister of Public Health by sending students to be trained at the institution. Dr. Ngwanyam equally revealed that apart from the University of Buea which has played the role of mentorship all this while, two weeks before the graduation officials from the University of Douala for an evaluation visit to grant mentorship for a Bachelor Degree and a Masters Programme in Pharmaceutical Sciences.
On the number of students on role, the CEO said 1400 students were enrolled for the 2015/2016 Academic Year with more than half of this number being francophones. On the quality of nurses graduating from Saint Louis he said they could hold their heads high anywhere. His institution could send qualified nurses anywhere into the world like the Philippines that sends about 9000 qualified nurses annually to the United States of America, Germany, Canada and Britain. Saint Louis given their quality could do the same he said.
One of the big revelations of the day was the plan to exploit 50.000 square meters of land at Up Station provided by Government and the Traditional Council in Bamendankwe to erect a complex to host Saint University Institute worth 3 billion FCFA. In a bid to provide ever improving quality, Dr. Nick Ngwanyam said they were in contact with the University of Cape Town in South Africa to make them mentor some Master Programmes.
The Governor of the North West Region, Adolf Lele L’Afrique was represented at the occasion by the Secretary General at the Governors Office Absolon Monono Wulua. On behalf of the Governor, the Secretary General said is an important aspect of that move towards emergence in 2035 and congratulated Saint Louis University Institute for being a partner of the Government in the achievement of this dream. The Minister of Higher Education through his representative called on the graduating students to maintain professionalism and serve as good ambassadors for the institution they were graduating from.
While the graduating batches were christened « Batch of Professionalism and Excellence », three exceptional students were singled out namely: Ngam Lesley Musa, Nchanji Kenneth and Longtchi.
